Mindset Drives Performance
The marketplace is noisy. Decision-making has slowed. Economic headlines are confusing. Yet top performers keep their mindset focused on what they can control.
Mark reminded listeners that the media can easily pull you into negativity. Staying focused begins with belief.
“You got to start with the belief that you are going to crush your numbers.”
You cannot control interest rates, government spending, or economic uncertainty. You can control your outreach, your conversations, and your activity.
Break Down Your Number
If you’re going to hit a big number, you need to understand how you will hit it.
Meridith encouraged sellers to reverse engineer their goals. If your target is one million, break it down into the daily behaviors that will get you there.
Mark added that many sellers fail because they look at the entire number and get overwhelmed. Instead, identify the incremental revenue needed and pursue only the most realistic opportunities.
Get Laser Focused on the Right Prospects
End of year selling requires precision. Not everyone will buy in Q4. Time is short, and customers are distracted.
Meridith emphasized being thoughtful about who is most likely to meet with you now and who has budget they must spend.
Mark noted that deals at the top of the funnel probably will not close this year. Focus instead on those already in motion, those with a relationship, and those ready to make a decision.
Keep Deals Simple
Complexity kills year end deals. Customers avoid decisions requiring heavy mental load.
“A confused customer does not buy.”
Simplifying your offer might reduce deal size, but it increases close rate. Smaller wins are still wins, especially when time is tight.
Maximize Existing Customers
Your current customers are your shortest path to additional sales.
Meridith encouraged sellers to revisit accounts for upsell or expansion opportunities. The heavy lifting has already been done.
Mark added that satisfied customers can also provide referrals that convert quickly.
He also suggested revisiting past opportunities that ended in no decision. Things change and timing may now be right.
Focus on Behaviors, Not Just Results
Meridith warned that obsessing over numbers creates desperation and leads to poor decisions. Instead, anchor your energy in the right behaviors. If results do not arrive this quarter, they will hit early next year.
“If you want to crush your numbers, you need to forget about the numbers.”
Understand Customer Objectives
Mark recommended analyzing every account to understand which strategic goals they are not achieving. When you identify where they are falling short, you create a roadmap to help them succeed.
Learn From Top Performers
Success leaves clues.
Top performers spend time with each other for a reason. They share energy, discipline, and insights.
“You become the sum of the five people you associate with the most.”
Seek out the leaders in your organization. Ask what they are doing. Most will happily share what is working for them.
Control What You Consume
Your input shapes your output.
Meridith encouraged sellers to pay attention to the books, podcasts, and voices they listen to daily.
Mark noted that your mind fills with something, and if you are not intentional, negativity will creep in. Winners focus on winning.
Build Momentum
Momentum is your greatest ally at the end of the year.
If you close a sale, do not stop to celebrate. Make the next call immediately. Activity fuels more activity.
Listener Question: Regaining Momentum
A listener wrote in asking how to rebuild confidence after missing numbers all year.
Meridith’s advice: let go of the past. Decide that things change starting now.
Mark added that winners do not dwell on yesterday. They learn from it and move on. Your next sale is only one phone call away.
Meridith encouraged doing a simple “seeds, weeds, and needs” review:
-
Seeds: What worked
-
Weeds: What slowed you down
-
Needs: What you must start doing
